Meet Saakshi
Saakshi’s birth was no less than a miracle for her parents who had previously suffered through 5 miscarriages. Little did they know that their miracle baby was likely to be India’s most premature baby who successfully thrived and survived with unparalleled care and expertise offered at Surya Hospital.
Born at 23 weeks of gestation, Sakshi weighed just 450 gms when she was born. She was merely 30 cm in length, which made it even more challenging to shift her to the ICU in the usual incubator. Due to her extremely low birth weight and size, Sakshi was listed as a micro-preemie.
Despite bleak chances of survival and normal development, Sakshi beat all odds and we made sure to leave no stone unturned in helping her fight back. Within 10 minutes of her birth, her lungs were cleared with the help of medication, she was shifted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and hooked to the ventilator.
During her hospitalization, she overcame many challenges like immature lungs, infections, bleeding in the brain, decreased haemoglobin, bone fragility and poor growth, finally being discharged weighing 1.9 kgs and in good health.
