Pain is personal. It really belongs to the one feeling it. Since adults are more articulate, they describe their pain to physicians appropriately so have a better chance of being understood and treated. This explains the fast growing speciality of chronic pain in adults. Chronic pain in children runs a risk going unrecognized and undertreated as they may not be precise and congruent in their complains. They need a different approach. With this deep sense of purpose, we are embarking on “Pain Clinic for Children" specifically meant for children and their special requirements. To our knowledge this is the first pain clinic dedicated only to children in our country.
Chronic pain in children
Chronic pain in children world over is about 20%. It's time we see chronic pain in children as separate entity by itself rather than approaching pain by looking for the disease or condition that causes pain and if not found conclude that the kid is faking it for getting attention or has an underlying psychological cause. Because the simple fact about chronic unexplained pain is, it develops when the area of the brain that has been receiving pain signals becomes activated and remains even if there are no more pain signal stimulating it. It's our job to try and soothe the nervous system and reactivate the body's natural pain control mechanisms.
